Corporate succession proves to be a success story

Treuen. - GETT is one of three corporations to win the 2018 Saxon Milestone Award. The prize is presented by the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport for success stories in the matter of business succession. The electronics specialist based in Treuen was the outright winner in the “internal corporate succession” category. The jury not only assesses the handover process, but also the development of the corporation in the subsequent period. For the managing partners, Pierre Beer, Tino Pietzsch and Steve Möckel, the award underlines the successful course that that corporation has pursued since the handover in 2013.

Economists often regard corporations as a complex organism with its own rules and dynamics. In the light of this, handing over a company can be compared to a surgical operation. In this sense, the “organic” interaction of all the individual elements following a transfer is even more important that the handover process itself. “We’ve obviously managed to form a genuine team with our employees at all levels. This should definitely not be taken for granted in view of the countless examples where new company managers can create a great deal of friction and therefore a loss of performance and, in the end, even scenarios that threaten the corporation’s existence,” says the managing partner, Pierre Beer.

According to the 37-year-old, one major factor in any successful takeover is the fact that the new managers come from the ranks of the employees. “This enables them to understand the issues that are important for the workforce. Another factor is the participation of each employee. This is created through transparency, the principle of open office doors and enabling people to share in the success.”

In the fifth year of the succession arrangement, GETT is now a corporate group with business operations in several countries; it is continuing to grow in a stable manner and is tapping into new potential. The corporation is therefore safeguarding jobs at its business site in the long term too. The new GETT managers view the Saxon Milestone Award as a marker proving that they have safely surmounted the first and most difficult task in any corporate takeover.
