Absolute safety with operating solutions from GETT

Treuen – Operating solutions manufactured by GETT Gerätetechnik GmbH comply with the toughest EMC requirements contained in the EN 60601-1-2 Edition 4 product standard. The products from the manufacturer based in Saxony can be integrated in the latest generation of medical technology equipment without any risks. This ensures that neither devices nor processes break down on account of any electromagnetic effects. This can save lives in an emergency.

EN 60601-1-2 Edition 4 has been in force since January 2019. It is mandatory and replaces the previous Edition 3. The standard defines the term “electromagnetic compatibility” as the capacity of a medical device or medical system “to work satisfactorily in its electromagnetic environment without causing any prohibited electromagnetic interference to this environment.[1]” This EMC capability must be guaranteed by means of various measures and tests.

Edition 4 introduces new elements, including much tougher EMC test specifications. The test level for ESD, for example, has risen from a maximum figure of 8 kV to 15 kV. However, the focus here is less on the device as on the environment where it is used, for which extensive risk management must be performed according to formal specifications in each case.

However, as keyboards and computer mice are not medical devices or systems according to the definition provided in the German Medical Products Act, the EN 60601-1-2 standard does not legally apply. However, to ensure that GETT customers can still use the corporation’s products without any interference, the EMC test specifications prescribed in Edition 4 have been successfully completed on certain products* – and other product tests are due to follow. This absolute safety applies to both the electromagnetic properties and also the high degree of hygiene protection offered by the items; this is achieved through using operator surfaces made of glass and silicone, which makes it easy to clean and disinfect the units.

* The tests were performed on the following products:
CK4 glass keyboard
CK4W glass keyboard
InduProof Smart Classic silicone keyboard

InduProof Smart Pro silicone keyboard
InduMouse® Pro silicone PC mouse
